Kingston Foodbank

We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis. We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

Dads, Lads & Lasses

Back in 1989, three local dads took their boys away for a weekend. Every year this same group carried on going camping for one weekend in the summer. They have steadily grown and now about 30 dads or guardians go away together with their lads as well as their lasses! The weekend is an opportunity for dads or guardians to spend quality time with their children in a stress-free, relaxed and enjoyable environment. As part of the bigger picture which is Dads Lads n Lasses, it continues to encourage men in their important roles as fathers and provides opportunities for friendship with other men in the process.

“I have a great time at Dads Lads n Lasses. My favourite time is when we all cook and eat together as one big happy family.”

Booking for the 2018 Dads Lads n Lasses weekend, 15 to 17 June, is now open! To secure your place, please complete the booking form and payment of £55 per family by clicking here or the logo!

Please note that all children need to be in school year 1 and above to attend the weekend. Approximately one month before the weekend we will email you an information pack with details about how to get to the site, a rough programme of activities, a list of what you need to bring plus other useful information.

If you have any questions about booking or about the weekend itself, please contact Neil Beckett via email at [email protected]. You can also check out the Dads Lads n Lasses Facebook page for the latest information and photos from past weekends.

Christmas Lunch on Jesus (CLOJ)

For most people, the Christmas season means time with family and friends, exchanging gifts and enjoying a festive meal together. However, for some people, the Christmas holiday is not a joyful experience. Many people do not have the financial resources to meet day-to-day needs, so a festive meal is beyond their imagination. Christmas Lunch on Jesus changes that.

Christmas Lunch on Jesus in Merton started in 2012. CLOJ helps local churches to make Christmas hampers for members of the community who are in desperate need at Christmas time. The hampers are packed with all Christmas goodies including a turkey, stuffing, carrots, brussel sprouts, potatoes, gravy, Christmas pudding, chocolates and non-alcoholic wine. Working closely with the Merton Council, Doxa Deo Church led the fundraising and distribution of 290 hampers in 2012, 630 hampers in 2013 matched that number again in 2014.

Young At Heart

Young At Heart (YAH) is a monthly event held for over 55s on the last Thursday of the month, from 2-4pm at The Den, in Tolworth to share friendship, chat and cake. The older generation is valuable to us at church but also within our society, which is why we are serious about providing ministry and opportunity to meet in community in a relaxed and appriopriate environment.

The group regularly hear short talks from guest speakers on a variety of subjects of interest as well as enjoying day trips on occasion to the south coast or local events in South West London.

Please feel free to contact us to find out more information including how you could get involved, too. Stephanie Edkins oversees YAH.

Wiggles & KidsROC

Wiggles and KidsROC are parent & toddler group run by Doxa Deo Community Church initiative. Wiggles is in partnership with St George’s Church in Tolworth, while KidsROC is solely DDCC led. These groups are a place where parents and carers come and chat, socialise and make friends while their pre-schoolers play in a safe environment before taking their big step to play group, nursery or school. Both are lively and friendly groups with opportunity to stimulating growth and learning.

The groups are open to all parents and carers with pre-school children. There is a typical format of starting with free-play which includes optional craft activities (for example drawing, sticking, painting and activities with food!) and then we all come together for a drink and biscuit (with tea and coffee for parents and carers!), a Bible story and some songs before some more play! We end with a group singing time with nursery rhymes, songs and musical instruments. During the free-play times, we have a baby area set out as well as a clear area to allow for more moving play.

KidsROC is on pause for a season, however, Wiggles runs every Friday during term time, from 9.30-11.30am.
